Choosing the builder's AI model (and why new Studio apps start on Overskill Max)

Each app has its own builder model. New apps start on your plan's default, which is Overskill Max on Studio and Max plans. Here's how to switch to a cheaper model.

Each app has its own builder model

The builder can run on different AI models. Bigger models handle harder problems but cost more credits per message. Overskill Lite uses far fewer credits per message and handles everyday edits well.

New apps and remixes start on your plan's default model. On Studio and Max plans, that's Overskill Max, which uses about five times as many credits per message as Overskill Lite. Some models in the picker cost more than Max. Free and lower plans start on Overskill Lite.

The model is set separately for each app. Changing it in one app doesn't change your other apps.

How to change the model

  1. Open the app in the editor.
  2. Under the box where you type to the builder, click the cube icon in the row of small buttons. Hover over it to see which model runs now.
  3. Pick the model you want.
  4. A box titled Switch AI model? opens. Click Switch model. The change only saves after this click.
  5. Hover over the cube icon again to check it shows the model you picked.

On a phone, open the builder chat's menu and pick the model under AI model.

Good habits

  • Use Overskill Lite for everyday edits. Switch to a bigger model only for a hard problem, then switch back.
  • Check the model on every new app and remix before your first message.
  • Runs that already happened stay charged at the model that ran them.

Build with OverSkill, not against it

The single biggest way to get more out of your credits: lean on what OverSkill already gives you instead of asking it to rebuild things from scratch. Here's how to spot the difference.
