Connecting your own domain
Use your own web address — like myapp.com — instead of the default one.
Every app comes with a default web address (something like myapp.overskill.app). When you're ready to look the part, you can point your own domain at the app instead.
What you need
- A domain you own (e.g.
myrecipes.com). If you don't have one yet, buy one from a registrar like Namecheap or Google Domains. - About 5 minutes.
Step 1 — Open domain settings
In the editor, click the gear icon to open settings, then Domains. You'll see the default address at the top and a button to Add a domain.
Step 2 — Enter your domain
Type it in (e.g. myrecipes.com or app.myrecipes.com — both work).
OverSkill checks if you own it. It'll either:
- Verify automatically — if your registrar supports it, you'll just hit
Connect
and be done. - Show you a few records to add — you'll copy them into your registrar's DNS settings.
Step 3 — Add DNS records (if needed)
If you got DNS records, log into wherever you bought your domain. Look for the DNS settings or Manage DNS area. Add the records OverSkill gave you.
Common registrars all have this — they call it slightly different things:
- Namecheap:
Advanced DNS
tab - Google Domains:
DNS
sidebar - GoDaddy:
DNS Records
- Squarespace Domains:
DNS Settings
Copy and paste exactly. Type, name, and value all matter.
Step 4 — Wait
DNS changes take anywhere from a few minutes to about an hour to propagate. Most people see it within 5-10 minutes. OverSkill verifies it automatically and marks your domain as Live when it's working.
Step 5 — You're done
Visit your domain in a browser. You should see your live app.
OverSkill handles the rest automatically — SSL certificates, security, redirects from http to https. You don't have to think about any of it.
Common questions
Can I use a subdomain like app.mybiz.com?
Yes. Just enter the full subdomain. The DNS step works the same way.
Can I have more than one domain?
Yes — add as many as you want. They all point to the same app. Handy for myapp.com + www.myapp.com.
How long until SSL is ready? Usually within a minute of your DNS being verified. The lock icon in the browser will show up automatically.
My DNS verification is stuck. What now? First check that you added the records exactly as shown. Then wait a bit longer — some registrars are slow. If it's been more than 2 hours, see When things go wrong or open a ticket.
