Where did plan mode go?

The Plan / Build toggle is gone. To talk something through without changing your app, just say so — "don't change anything yet" works.

The Plan / Build switch that used to sit in the chat box is gone. You can still do everything it did — you just say it instead of setting it.

Just tell it not to make changes

Say it in your message, and put it first:

Don't change anything yet — I want to talk this through first. How would you add a members-only area to this site?

Other phrasings that work just as well:

  • Just answer, don't edit my app: why is my checkout page slow?
  • Walk me through your plan first — don't make any changes yet.
  • Explain how this works. No changes.

The AI will answer, ask you questions, and lay out how it would do the work instead of building it. When you like the plan, say go ahead and build it.

If it ever gets ahead of you and changes something you didn't want, you can put it back from version history. Nothing is permanent.

Why this is better than a toggle

You can change your mind mid-sentence. There's no switch to remember, nothing to leave in the wrong position, and no wondering why the AI stopped building.

You might still see the switch in an older chat

If a chat was set to Plan when this changed, the AI won't edit that app until you switch it back. You'll still see the Plan / Build switch in that chat — tap Build once and it goes away for good.

Nothing was lost, and nothing you planned is gone.

Does asking a question still cost credits?

Yes. Every message to the AI costs credits — there's no free question. A short question is usually cheaper than a full build, but it isn't free: the AI still loads your app so it can answer accurately. The old switch didn't make questions free either.

Where you do save is by planning before a big change. Agreeing on the approach up front avoids rounds of no, not like that — and each of those rebuilds is a full request.

Tips

  • Put don't change anything at the start of your message. It's the part that matters most.
  • Switch whenever you like — OK, build it now is enough.
  • For anything big, ask for the plan first. Fewer wrong turns, fewer credits.
