Banns

The complete civil-registration record of a superintendent registrar's register office — the statutory district that registers every birth, death and marriage within its bounds, takes notices of marriage and the statutory waiting period, verifies identity and capacity, licenses premises for ceremonies, issues certified copies from the bound volumes, and corrects the record when it is wrong. The authority on who was registered, by which registrar, under which entry number, in which volume, and what has since been noted in the margin. The signature Registers module is the bound volumes themselves, drawn as a true double-page spread with a visible gutter and pre-printed hairline column rules: volume number, page, entry number, register type, the registrar's signature, the date of entry, whether the volume stands open or closed in the strongroom, and the running count against the volume's five-hundred-entry capacity — twelve ruled lines to a leaf, twenty-four to the spread, countable from the drawing. Behind it: notices of marriage with both parties' age and condition, the declared ceremony date and venue, the date notice was given and the date the twenty-eight-day waiting period expires, the extended period where the referral scheme applies, every document produced marked SEEN, CERTIFIED or OUTSTANDING, any caveat entered against the notice, and hard flags for WAITING PERIOD NOT EXPIRED, DOCUMENT OUTSTANDING, REFERRED and CAVEAT ENTERED; birth registrations inside the forty-two-day statutory period with the informant and their qualification to inform, whether both parents attended, re-registration and parental-responsibility cases, and late registrations carrying the reason; death registrations inside the five-day period with the medical certificate of cause of death and the doctor who signed it, the cause stated in its three parts, coroner referrals with the inquest reference where jurisdiction has been assumed, and the form issued for burial or cremation; the ceremonies diary as the office's own appointment book, with statutory ceremonies in the register office room and approved-premises ceremonies, the registrar and deputy assigned to each, travel time between venues and double-bookings flagged; approved premises with approval number, grant and expiry dates, the rooms approved and their capacity, the triennial renewal, inspection findings and conditions attached, flagged where an approval expires within ninety days or a condition stands breached; certified copies with the entry searched, the register and the search fee, priority against standard service and the dispatch deadline, and the refusal register with the reason recorded; corrections and caveats showing the record put right by marginal note rather than by alteration — the error, the statutory route, the evidence required, the authority competent to correct it, and the date noted — with open caveats that prevent a marriage from proceeding; identity and capacity as the verification file, with documents examined per party, the interpreter engaged and their accreditation, capacity concerns raised and how resolved; fees and statutory charges reconciled monthly to the district account; and strongroom custody carrying each volume's shelf reference, the two-key access log, volumes signed out to the Registrar General, humidity and condition inspection, and any volume recorded as damaged. The public get an applicant portal — book a notice appointment, see which documents to bring, track the waiting period, order a certificate. Drawn entirely in the idiom of Edwardian bound vital-register ruling and copperplate column headings crossed with Art Nouveau civic certificate guilloche: a cold grey-green register paper, deep indigo-black ink, a single vermilion reserved for caveats, coroner referrals and out-of-time entries, an oxblood for closed volumes, drop caps opening every section, an interlaced guilloche border drawn as inline SVG around the certificate plate, a drawn embossed seal impression, and corrections set sideways in the outer gutter exactly as they are genuinely recorded. Both fold figures close as exact partitions of their stated totals. Zero photography, zero gradients — all imagery is hand-drawn inline SVG.
