Holotype

Holotype is the collections, curation and teaching platform for a university herbarium — a research collection of 412,000 pressed and mounted sheets accumulated since 1847, of which 1,180 are nomenclatural types, held in 96 cabinets across four ranges and lent to herbaria on three continents. The Accession Register carries every sheet as a dense row: accession number, current determination with author citation, family, collector and collecting number, locality with elevation and coordinate precision, preparation, cabinet-range-shelf-folder position, condition grade, and hard flags for TYPE SHEET, DETERMINATION PENDING, ON LOAN, PEST DAMAGE, UNMOUNTED BACKLOG and NO GEOREFERENCE. Alongside it: the type register with protologue references, basionyms, typification dates and JSTOR barcodes; a determination history that keeps every slip a sheet has ever carried, with the superseded names struck but legible; the registrar's loan and exchange ledger with due dates, destructive-sampling permissions, phytosanitary and CITES paperwork and the sheet balance with each partner herbarium; collectors and their field books; the collection-care programme of freezing cycles, IPM traplines and environmental excursions; a georeferencing queue turning label text into coordinates with an uncertainty radius; the digitisation pipeline through to GBIF publication; the teaching collection and reading room; and a researcher portal for catalogue search, loan and visit requests and citation download. Drawn as an Anna Atkins cyanotype photogram — chalk-white plant negatives out of Prussian blue, off-white label-paper data chips pinned to the plate, a ruled herbarium sheet with its stamp roundel and barcode, and tabular mono figures throughout.
