Jumelage

Jumelage is the administration platform for a town twinning association — the voluntary civic body running a market town's formal partnerships with four twin towns abroad, one in France since 1961, one in Germany since 1974, one in Poland since 1998 and one in Ghana since 2012. The Exchange Board carries every exchange in flight as a dense row: reference, twin town and direction of travel, exchange type from civic delegation to youth music tour, party size split into adults and under-18s, the coordinator on each side, host-family placements secured against places needed, consent and safeguarding paperwork returned, insurance, the funding position against budget, and hard flags for PLACEMENTS SHORT, DBS OUTSTANDING, CONSENT FORM MISSING, NO INTERPRETER, TRAVEL UNBOOKED and PARTNER NOT CONFIRMED. Alongside it: the four partnerships with their charters, signatories, anniversary years and cumulative visits each way; a host-family register with rooms offered, languages, dietary provision, accessibility, DBS expiry and home-visit notes, and the matching screen that pairs a named visitor to a named household and shows why; delegation itineraries with civic receptions, interpreters and the gifts exchanged; school pairings with consent, risk assessments and staffing ratios; year-round language circles and pen-pal pairings; the charters, gifts and photographic archive; the grant round and subscription income that pays for half of it; members, committee and AGM; and a member portal for applications, hosting offers and live itineraries. Drawn in the Memphis Group idiom of Milan 1981-87 — Bacterio squiggles, terrazzo confetti and zig-zag bands keyed one pattern per twin town, thick black keylines, flat poster colour and oversized display type with hard offset shadows.

The guild's year is the product, and each member's place in it is the thing they log in to see. The design is Gee's Bend improvisational patchwork crossed with Amish bar-and-block quilt geometry. Large hard-edged fields of saturated flat color are butted directly against one another with no gutter, so the page reads as a pieced top rather than a set of cards; the wordmark itself is split across two blocks, SAM and PLER, each landing in its own field. Dashed seam rules stand in for stitching, nine-patch and log-cabin block plates are drawn as real geometry rather than decoration, and the palette is indigo, madder red, sage and ochre on unbleached muslin. Type is Bricolage Grotesque set enormous and Karla for the reading copy. No cards with rounded corners, no soft shadows, no craft-store cursive. Behind the front page is the guild itself: the year-at-a-glance program calendar, the block-of-the-month challenge with each member's completed blocks and streak, the juried show with entries by category and ribbon assignments, charity drives tracking blocks pledged against tops finished, a lending library with who has what checked out and when it is due, the member roster with dues status and committee roles, and workshop registration with seat counts and a real waitlist. Remix it for any membership organization whose value is a year of programming rather than a single transaction: quilting and knitting guilds, camera clubs, garden and orchid societies, woodworking and maker collectives, choral groups and community bands, bee-keeping associations, running and cycling clubs, book clubs, historical societies, or any volunteer-run group juggling dues, meetings, a show, and a lending library.
