Krewe

Krewe is the whole-year administration platform for a New Orleans carnival krewe — a nine-hundred-member parading social organization, founded 1912, that exists for one night parade, one ball, and the twelve months of dues, throws, float building and captaincy that make them happen. It is a membership society's system of record, not a ticketing site. The membership book carries every member by division and float, years of continuous membership, second-generation legacy lineage, standing from good-standing through dues outstanding and leave of absence, and the captain's committee appointments. The dues ledger runs annual dues, float assessment, throw package and ball ticket allotment per member, with part-payments and payment plans and every total derived from the ledger rather than typed. Twenty-two floats carry title, design theme, unit number in the running order, rider capacity against riders assigned, chassis and den status and the papier-mache prop list. The throw inventory tracks beads by the gross, doubloons struck this year, signature hand-decorated shoes and coconuts and cups, with per-rider minimums and a den delivery schedule. The parade screen maps the route with staging, the line of march with bands and marching units between floats, roll-out time, marshals and permit checkpoints. The ball screen holds the tableau — royalty, the call-out list, table assignments, costume and train fittings and the invitation mail-out. The den runs the work-night rota, artist assignments, materials and the fire-marshal inspection register. A member portal shows one member their standing, dues balance, float and riding position, throw order, ball allotment and work-night credits. Designed as nineteenth-century carnival float-design watercolour plates meeting Victorian letterpress ball-invitation engraving — deep royal purple, antique gold, carnival green and ivory, engraved hairline borders and corner fleurons, stacked wood-type display capitals, drop caps, wax-seal medallions and ribbon banners, opening on an asymmetric off-centre hero with a float plate bleeding off the edge and running into sticky-scroll storytelling down the parade route. Large hard-edged fields of saturated flat color are butted directly against one another with no gutter, so the page reads as a pieced top rather than a set of cards; the wordmark itself is split across two blocks, SAM and PLER, each landing in its own field. Dashed seam rules stand in for stitching, nine-patch and log-cabin block plates are drawn as real geometry rather than decoration, and the palette is indigo, madder red, sage and ochre on unbleached muslin. Type is Bricolage Grotesque set enormous and Karla for the reading copy. No cards with rounded corners, no soft shadows, no craft-store cursive. Behind the front page is the guild itself: the year-at-a-glance program calendar, the block-of-the-month challenge with each member's completed blocks and streak, the juried show with entries by category and ribbon assignments, charity drives tracking blocks pledged against tops finished, a lending library with who has what checked out and when it is due, the member roster with dues status and committee roles, and workshop registration with seat counts and a real waitlist.
