About this template

Liberation is the complete working system of a racing pigeon federation and its member clubs - the organisation that registers the lofts, rings the birds, baskets them on a Friday night, transports them hundreds of miles, liberates them at dawn, verifies the clocks when they return and calculates the velocity that decides the result.

Fourteen real modules, each a browsable page with real seeded federation data. The LOFT REGISTER carries every member loft with its fancier, club, membership number and its surveyed latitude and longitude to four decimal places. The BIRD REGISTER holds every pigeon by its ring number in full federation format with year of hatch, sex, colour and pattern, sire and dam, best recorded velocity and racing status. The SEASON RACE PROGRAMME is the fixture list - race point, category, date, distance band, clubs convoying and entry fee a bird. BASKETING AND MARKING is the Friday marking sheet: birds entered per loft, the rubber ring issued against each pigeon ring, the marking steward, the crate loaded and the convoy departure time. The LIBERATION LOG is the race point record at release - liberation time to the minute, sky and visibility, wind direction and speed, temperature, the convoyer, and the holdover reason where a race was delayed.

CLOCK VERIFICATION records every timing device set and struck with its master time, setting and striking variation in seconds, the correction applied and the timekeeper who witnessed it. VELOCITY CALCULATION then works the result out in the open: surveyed distance in yards, corrected flying time, and velocity in yards per minute to three decimal places. The LOFT DISTANCE SURVEY publishes the great-circle distance from each race point to each loft with its surveyor and resurvey date. PEDIGREE AND BREEDING, HEALTH AND VACCINATION (with the paramyxovirus date and batch every racing bird needs), STRAYS AND LOST BIRDS and POINTS AND TROPHIES complete the federation's view. A FANCIER PORTAL gives a member their own birds, entries, results and vaccination compliance, and a FEDERATION DASHBOARD closes the loop.

The signature drawing is a liberation velocity fan: the race point struck at the top as a cancellation ring, with one stroked flight line descending to each loft that clocked a bird, every line drawn at that loft's real bearing and joined by a leader to an engraved chip carrying its velocity in yards per minute, the fastest line heavier and tagged WINNER. Designed in 1950s British racing-pigeon club printed ephemera crossed with Victorian philatelic engraving - a warm oat manila ground, slate postal blue ink, one postal red reserved strictly for a failed clock verification, a lost bird or a lapsed vaccination, with drawn stamp perforation edges, rubber-stamp cancellation rings and an airmail chevron rule throughout.
