Maltings

Overview

Maltings is a production management app for a traditional Victorian floor maltings operation, handling 4,800 tonnes of barley a year transformed into pale ale, Maris Otter, Golden Promise, distilling and specialty malts for craft brewers and distillers. It tracks every piece of grain through steeping, germination, kilning and despatch, and records the laboratory analysis and customer specifications at each stage.

What you get

• Piece Board: production row showing piece number, barley variety, crop year, farm and field origin, tonnage, current stage, hours in stage, bed depth, floor position, moisture, chit and acrospire length, and hours to next action
• Barley Intake: grades each delivery against contract spec for screenings, nitrogen, germinative capacity, admixture, skinned and split corns, and pre-germination test, naming any rejecting parameter
• Steeping: schedules the four vessels' wet and dry cycles against steep-out moisture
• Germination Floors: shows each bed as a plan view with temperature gradient, turning count and matting risk
• Kilning: plots real free-drying, break and curing ramp with colour development in EBC and moisture off-kiln
• Malt Analysis: laboratory sheet recording hot water extract, fine-coarse difference, Kolbach index, friability, diastatic power and beta-glucan against customer spec with pass or fail
• Contracts and despatch with full batch traceability and compliance
• Brewer's Account portal with downloadable certificates of analysis and field-to-sack provenance

The signature screen

The Piece Board is the dense production row at the heart of the app, carrying every piece moving through the house with piece number, barley variety, crop year, farm and field origin, current stage from steep through the three germination floors to kiln and despatch, and the detailed metrics governing each stage—hours, bed depth, floor position, moisture, chit and acrospire length, and hours to the next action. It is the single point where all grain movements and their specifications converge.
