Sampler

Sampler is the operating system for a quilting and fiber-arts guild: a real membership organization of a hundred-odd makers that has to run an entire year of programming and keep every member's participation in it straight. Monthly meetings with programs and attendance, a block-of-the-month challenge that runs across twelve months, a juried annual quilt show with entries and ribbons, charity quilt drives with block counts and finished tops, a lending library of patterns and books, and paid workshop sign-ups with limited seats and a waitlist. The guild's year is the product, and each member's place in it is the thing they log in to see. The design is Gee's Bend improvisational patchwork crossed with Amish bar-and-block quilt geometry. Large hard-edged fields of saturated flat color are butted directly against one another with no gutter, so the page reads as a pieced top rather than a set of cards; the wordmark itself is split across two blocks, SAM and PLER, each landing in its own field. Dashed seam rules stand in for stitching, nine-patch and log-cabin block plates are drawn as real geometry rather than decoration, and the palette is indigo, madder red, sage and ochre on unbleached muslin. Type is Bricolage Grotesque set enormous and Karla for the reading copy. No cards with rounded corners, no soft shadows, no craft-store cursive. Behind the front page is the guild itself: the year-at-a-glance program calendar, the block-of-the-month challenge with each member's completed blocks and streak, the juried show with entries by category and ribbon assignments, charity drives tracking blocks pledged against tops finished, a lending library with who has what checked out and when it is due, the member roster with dues status and committee roles, and workshop registration with seat counts and a real waitlist. Remix it for any membership organization whose value is a year of programming rather than a single transaction: quilting and knitting guilds, camera clubs, garden and orchid societies, woodworking and maker collectives, choral groups and community bands, bee-keeping associations, running and cycling clubs, book clubs, historical societies, or any volunteer-run group juggling dues, meetings, a show, and a lending library.
