Venire

Venire is the summoning, deferral and empanelment record of a central jury bureau — the office that has to fill every jury box in the jurisdiction from an electoral roll of 2.14 million, across 7 court centres and 41 courtrooms, and be able to prove the draw was random, the panel was eligible, and the court got the jurors it required.

It holds the pools and the random draw with the seed and method recorded for every selection, the summons register from issue to reply with the replies that ran past the clock, the eligibility screen and its disqualifications, the excusals and deferrals with the ground claimed and the officer who allowed them, the attendance and yield board that measures what was summoned against what was actually sworn — 3,480 citizens summonsed a month against 912 jurors sworn — the panels and empanelment record from the box to the sworn twelve, service and payments with loss-of-earnings and travel, the per-centre requirements and the centres running below them, the adjustments made to close the gap, the safeguards that protect the integrity of the draw, a juror portal and the bureau's own live board.

The authority on four questions a jury bureau must never be unable to answer: was the draw random, was the juror eligible, was the excusal properly allowed, and did the court get its panel.
