Selling from outside the US (payouts, currency, tax)

Selling from outside the US works through Overskill Payments. You get paid to a bank account in your own country's currency, you can price plans in other currencies, and Whop is the merchant of record.

If you're outside the US, or building for a client who is, here's how getting paid, pricing and tax work when your app sells through Overskill Payments. Payments run on Whop, our payments partner.

Getting verified and paid

  • Verify your identity first. Go to Account → Payments → Verify identity. Whop runs the check and makes the decision, so we can't promise the result. Some countries and business types can't be set up for payouts yet. See Identity verification — what and why.
  • Payouts go to a bank account in your country's own currency. If you're outside the US, set up a bank account that accepts the currency of the country you registered with. Whop converts your sales into that currency before paying out, even if a buyer paid in US dollars. A US-dollar bank account won't receive payouts if your country uses a different currency.

Pricing in your own currency

You can price your app's plans in currencies other than US dollars, for example euros, pounds or yen. Buyers are charged in the plan's currency. Tell the builder which currency you want when it creates a plan:

Create a Pro plan at €19 a month, priced in euros.

Who the seller of record is

Whop is the merchant of record for sales made through Overskill Payments.

VAT, GST and sales tax

How tax is handled depends on where you and your buyers are, and on the tax option you choose in your payouts dashboard's tax settings. Whop's options for your own sales are:

  • Whop collects and remits tax — Whop adds the tax at checkout and pays it to the tax authority for you.
  • Whop collects tax, I remit — Whop adds the tax at checkout and includes it in your payout, and you pay it to the tax authority. Set it aside.
  • I'll handle tax myself — calculating, collecting and paying the tax is all yours.

Which options are available, and where Whop collects tax, depends on the country. Check Whop's tax help pages for your country before you launch. If you sell in a VAT or GST currency, also see Setting up VAT-inclusive pricing & discount codes for your paid app.
