Whop is retiring its older checkout on October 21
Whop is turning off its older built-in checkout on October 21, 2026. Some older Overskill apps still use it. Here's how to tell whether your app does and what to do.
Whop recently emailed creators to say its older built-in checkout stops working on October 21, 2026. If you got that email and sell anything in an Overskill app, here's what it means for you.
The short version
- New apps are already fine. Apps started recently on Overskill use Whop Elements, the checkout Whop is keeping. The email needs no action for those apps. (A copy of an older app keeps the older app's checkout.)
- Some older apps still use the older checkout. After October 21, customers won't be able to pay in those apps until they're moved over.
- You don't need to rebuild anything. Overskill is adding a free, one-click Upgrade checkout button to the editor before October 21. It moves an older app to Whop Elements safely.
- Apps that don't sell anything won't break. If you plan to add a checkout to an older app, upgrade it first.
How to tell which checkout your app has
Open the app in the editor and ask the AI:
Does this app use Whop Elements or the older Whop checkout?
It reads your app's own record and tells you which checkout the app is set up with. If it says the older checkout and your app takes payments, your app needs the upgrade. If your app doesn't sell anything yet, nothing breaks now, but upgrade before you add a checkout.
A note if you've asked before: the AI used to say an older checkout was session-based
and therefore the newer version. That was wrong. Session-based is not the same as Whop Elements. If the AI says your app uses the older checkout, the upgrade is for you.
What to do if your app uses the older checkout
Wait for the Upgrade checkout button, and use it before October 21. It will appear in the editor for apps that need it. One click moves your checkout to Whop Elements. It's free.
Please don't ask the AI to switch your checkout by hand. A hand-made switch can leave your app half on the old checkout and half on the new one. Then a customer could pay and still look unpaid, so they wouldn't get access to what they bought. The AI won't do that switch for you. That's on purpose, not a bug. The Upgrade checkout button changes everything together, so payments and access stay in step.
After you upgrade, run one test purchase to confirm buyers get in. See Test your checkout without paying.
What if October 21 is close and I don't see the button yet?
Reach out through the help panel in the editor. Tell us which app sells things, and we'll check it for you.
