Selling access to your app vs. selling products through your app

The Monetize dashboard is for charging people to use your app. Selling products or services from inside your app (a store, a cart) is a separate setup.

Payments can mean two different things on Overskill, and the Monetize dashboard only covers one of them.

1. Selling access to your app (Monetize / Overskill Payments)

Use this when people pay to use your app, the way you'd pay for a SaaS tool or a membership site.

  • Subscriptions: monthly or annual access
  • One-time purchases: pay once and keep access
  • Gating: you can charge for the whole app or only for certain features

To set it up, tell the builder something like Let me charge $20 a month for access to this app. It creates a fixed-price plan and adds the hosted checkout. Money goes to your Overskill wallet. Your customers can manage or cancel their subscription with the Manage subscription button.

Before your app can accept payments, you need to fill in your business details in the payment verification panel and pass the approval review. Cashing out to your bank also needs a one-time identity check.

Marketplace listing is a separate option. It lets other creators buy a copy of your app as a template.

2. Selling products or services through your app

Use this when your app is a store or booking tool and the buyer pays for a specific order: a cart total, variants, shipping, tax, or coupons. A fixed-price access plan can't handle that. Depending on how the app was built, this kind of checkout usually runs through:

  • your own processor, with keys saved in the editor's Env Vars tab (never pasted into chat),
  • a Shopify storefront, or
  • an external checkout link (Gumroad, Lemon Squeezy, Paddle, etc.).

Which one do I need?

  • People pay me to use this tool → Monetize / Overskill Payments.
  • People use this tool to buy something from me → a product checkout (section 2).
  • One app can do both.
